Australia's Free Trade Agreements

As foreshadowed at the end of yesterday's post, ASEAN, Indonesia & Australia, this post provides a simple stocktake of the current position on Australia's various free trade agreements.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade contains the following list:

Australia's Free Trade Agreements

Free Trade Agreements under negotiation

Free Trade Agreements under consideration

On 13 December 2010, the Australian Productivity Commission released an evaluation of the various free trade agreements, Bilateral and Regional Trade Agreements Research report. This expressed caution about the perceived benefits.

In April, the Gillard Government released a new trade policy statement, Trading our way to more jobs and prosperity.

I wonder whether a CEPA will end up much different to an FTA/PTA.

BTW, I have just written something about the Australian media and reporting of Asia and the Pacific on my blog.

Probably not, although a CEPA provides scope for cooperation on a broader range of issues. Thank you for the companion post. I added a postscript to the original post giving a link to your post.
