I just don't think that there is a specific anti-Indian stream in Australia, although some individual Australians may hold anti-Indian views.

One of the difficulties is that actual number of incidents appears to be quite small. There are something like 90,000 Indians studying in Australia, I heard this number but haven't checked it. I suspect that the actual chance of an Indian student suffering harm are the same as, may even be less than, those holding for the general community.

All that said, it remains true that the students are our guests and Australia has a responsibility to look after them.Jim Belshawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10075614280789984767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24338064.post-57979423981697068932009-06-09T04:24:48.353+10:002009-06-09T04:24:48.353+10:00Nice to have news about Indian Students affected b...Nice to have news about Indian Students affected by the Australian and all the indian must support to the indian students who are all staying in Autralia.

http://parttimejobs-indian.blogspot.comGoogle Online Jobs from Homehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08206498580091464742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24338064.post-5238094020732399622009-06-09T03:35:52.670+10:002009-06-09T03:35:52.670+10:00Jim, thank you for this perceptive. I have been to Neil's blog and have left the following comment which is as applicable here as there.

"Neil, I am very impressed with this post and intend sending links via email to a lot of my friends, as I shall of Jim's post on the same subject as well.

In India, it has become a highly emotive issue, particularly after Australia refused to supply uranium to India, and the last cricket tour to Australia not exactly having been very pleasant. The use of the word "racism" is, I suspect, for want of a better substitute rather than in the way that it normally means. There is however the feeling, at least from the letters to the editors in the various papers, that Australia has become anti Indian on many fronts and this is one more proof of that happening.

Quite how all this will play out is anybody's guess, but I suspect that at least in the immediate future, the number of students from India going to Australia to study will come down substantially."rummuserhttp://www.rummuser.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24338064.post-46267533913156404512009-06-08T19:59:07.641+10:002009-06-08T19:59:07.641+10:00Thanks, LE. It is also about unscrupulous thugs targeting a specific group of people who they have identified as 'easy pickings' for theft - obvious outsiders who might not be aware that it isn't safe to walk in a particular area alone at night.

I also agree with Neil that we should be careful to provide for the welfare of international students who come here. Some of the private colleges are terrible. Some poor students get totally ripped off. It's also about making sure that students get proper orientation and education about what is safe and what is not.Legal Eaglehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01096038577529334966noreply@blogger.com
