Jim, the strongest incentive I ever had to shop locally was in the bad old days(in the 1970s)when we lived under the threat of petrol rationing. Our local service station in Macquarie (a Canberra suburb) had a policy of rewarding regular customers.
I had forgotten that, the petrol issue, Winton.
