One of the most interesting but also problematical things about the changes being made by Australia's new PM is simply understanding what it all means. This is not a criticism, just a statement of personal confusion. It's quite hard to make an overall policy assessment when you don't know what's in and what's out.
If I were to use the New South Walesing analogy that I have used before, the Gillard Government would become a pragmatic centre-right Government (ALP people in NSW hate the centre-right tag) with a somewhat mechanistic and authoritarian policy approach tailored at the margin to appeal to current hot buttons as revealed by polling, focus groups and other measures of popular opinion.
I just don't know. I am pretty sure that Ms Gillard will have a better management style than KRudd and that will help the system. Beyond that, it is going to be fascinating to watch!
