"A lake just east of Club Lake in the Vestfold Hills. The region was photographed by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47), ANARE (1954, 1957, 1958) and the Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1956)."
And I see it's a trifle chilly today down there: http://www.yr.no/place/Antarctica/Other/Jabs,_Lake/
The only thing left to ask of your friend is if the lake contains fish? I found researching this reference through the week to be a very interesting exercise. Thank you.

More on "Operation Highjump" which I forgot to include above:

- see what I mean about 'interesting'?

Good heavens, kvd. The things you find!
Thank you Jim - and I believe I deserve extra special kudos for introducing Hitler within two comments on a blog post; Godwin's Law and all that :)

ps find out about the fish, please.
I will find out for you, kvd. And you do deserve great praise for managing to bring Hitler in; I had to look up Godwin's law! On that version of Operation Highjump, Good Lord. Actually, there is a popular pulp novel that appears to be based roughly upon that version.
