As the first post in the ABS statistics series, today the Bureau released new data on Australia's not for profit sector. I was surprised by its size.
At the end of June 2007, there were 40,976 not-for-profit organisations in Australia employing 884,476 people. In addition, there were 2,434,815 volunteers during 2006-07.
In 2006-2007, our not for profits generated $74.5b in income and spent $68.3b.
